As we subtly approach 2020’s arrival, we naturally ponder the decade’s many monumental events, critical successes, and rising trends. And one of the fastest-growing trends in the food and beverage industry here in the Peach State is the resurgence of craft beer. While craft beer was quite popular among Americans prior to prohibition, the industry remained dormant for nearly an entire century in most parts of the country. Luckily for adventurers who also happen to be self-proclaimed beer aficionados, America’s expanding craft beer scene is alive and well here in the North Georgia mountains. While there isn’t an abundance of North Georgia breweries near Mountain Oasis Cabin Rentals, three local taprooms have become massive draws for hikers, anglers, and mountain bikers who desire a refreshing ale after each rejuvenating day of adventure and exploration.
The Best North Georgia Breweries
The North Georgia mountains are known for its many vineyards and wineries, but don’t overlook the region’s rising craft beer community. You’ll be happy to hear that three of the best North Georgia breweries are just a short drive from our unique, mountain-view vacation rentals. Perhaps the best place to enjoy your newly-purchased growler is on one of our mountain-view decks at sunset before stargazing inside an outdoor hot tub.
1. Cartecay River Brewing Co.
Cartecay River Brewing Co. is the “new kid” on the block as they just opened their doors in the summer of 2019 to rave reviews from critics, travelers, and Untappd’s online community. As Ellijay’s only craft brewery, these former homebrewers know how risky this new venture is—but, thankfully, their long-awaited debut was met with jubilance. This four-barrel craft brewery has already utilized 37 unique beer recipes since its July launch, including a variety of hazy IPAs, kölsches, and dry-hopped sours. Cartecay often hosts trivia nights with local eats via the region’s best food trucks.
2. Grumpy Old Men Brewing
Grumpy Old Men Brewing has been a staple in the Blue Ridge community since it was founded in 2012. And, while ownership has changed hands since then, this popular Main Street hangout remains one of the area’s top attractions. Grumpy Old Men hosts a wide array of events, such as yoga, live music, and non-profit fundraisers to allure beer enthusiasts. Thankfully, their wide-ranging ales live up to the hype. What we love about Grumpy’s beer is that there’s always a healthy amount of sessionable summertime ales and roasty, wintertime favorites on tap, such as an English porter or a dark sour. If you plan to visit just one Blue Ridge brewery, we typically recommend this crowd-pleasing taproom.
3. Fannin Brewing Company
Approximately 1.2 miles northeast of Grumpy Old Man Brewing rests Fannin Brewing Company, one of the most-visited North Georgia breweries during the summer months. Fannin’s sizable gravel patio typically features cornhole boards, an oversized Jenga set, ample space for puppies, and, of course, frequent live performances. This down-to-earth establishment prides itself on its friendly service, small-town ambiance, and well-balanced ales. Admirers of tart, tangy sours will appreciate their Tuttie Fruttie and Peach Sour. There aren’t many breweries in the North Georgia mountains that can match Fannin’s sour ales.
